Accelerated Reading
AR is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer - passing the quiz is an indication that your child has understood what has been read. The absolute key here is the understanding –your child may be able to physically read the words of almost any book aloud but the quizzes test the understanding/comprehension of the chosen text.

As part of our Accelerated Reader subscription, parents and carers are able to access a site to keep track of their child’s progress. You can access the Renaissance Home Connect system through the link here:
You will need your child’s AR username and password to do so. You can view your child’s progress towards targets, points and books read. You can also access AR BookFinder to search for titles of interest. It does not allow the children to quiz at home. A letter with individual log in details will be sent out to all children in Y3-Y6.
